The 4 Major Ports in the San Blas Region of Panama

Navigating San Blas: Key Ports for Your Sailing Adventure

The Guna Yala – San Blas region currently has four primary ports, with San Blas Catamaran frequently using the port of Barsuggun or Barsukun. All these ports, conveniently located within the Carti area, provide key access points for exploring the beautiful archipelago.

Reaching the Ports: What to Expect

To access these ports, which serve as embarkation points for water taxis leading to our catamarans or various islands, you will need to take a road transfer from Panama City. The journey typically takes about 1.5 hours and requires a 4×4 vehicle due to the terrain. Once you reach the border, continue along a dirt road heading east for about 30 minutes before arriving at the port.

Although San Blas has four ports, we usually direct our guests to the port of Barsuggun or Barsukun. Located conveniently by a river, this port offers a secure parking and waiting area, ensuring a smooth and safe transition to your catamaran. Additionally, the other ports in San Blas—such as Tupile, Dibin, and Niga Kantule—provide access to different parts of the archipelago, giving you diverse exploration options.
