The name “Piña Colada” translates to “strained pineapple” in Spanish, and it is a true delicacy of the tropics. Its origins date back to Puerto Rico in the 1950s, where bartender Ramón “Monchito” Marrero is widely credited with creating the first official version at the Caribe Hilton Hotel in San Juan. The cocktail quickly became a Caribbean icon, celebrated for its tropical sweetness and creamy texture. Today, it’s recognized worldwide as the quintessential symbol of island indulgence.

Our made-from-scratch Pina Colada has been a favorite among our guests for years, and it’s easy to see why. Our secret lies in the simplicity of our recipe and the high-quality, readily-available ingredients we use. There include fresh pineapple, locally sourced coconut cream, and the famous Abuelo rum.
Pineapples are grown year-round in the rich tropical conditions of Panama and neighboring Costa Rica, resulting in a sweet and fruity taste that is hard to resist. Meanwhile, coconut is another staple of the San Blas islands. Notably, it’s sustainably harvested by the Guna Indigenous people, and valued for its versatility and importance to the local economy.
In addition, we take pride in our use of Abuelo Rum, a premium sugarcane-based rum from Panama, appreciated for its smooth character and refined taste. When enjoyed in moderation, it perfectly complements the tropical flavors of our handcrafted Pina Colada.

3 Ingredient Pina Colada Recipe
- 1 oz (one part) Coconut cream / we prefer to strain the milk from the local coconuts and mix it with sugar
- 1 oz (one part) White rum / choose a good rum, bad rum will make bad pina colada
- 3 oz (3 parts) Pineapple juice / freshly cut and frozen pineapple is preferable
Blend it in the mixer for 1 minute low speed and another minute in high speed.
